----------------------------------------------------------
Dear All,
since the year 2000 Dr Rosi Stenke, on behalf of Allwetterzoo
Muenster and
ZGAP, has lead the highly successful recovery programme for the Cat
Ba or
Golden-headed Langur (Trachypithecus poliocephalus). During that period
the world population of this critically endangered primate has increased
from 50 individuals in 2000 to 68 at present - still dangerously low,
but
nevertheless an impressive 30 % increase !
Rosi Stenke wanted to retire from the project last year and return to
Germany, but due to the difficulty of finding a qualified replacement
Project Leader she has extended her stay on Cat Ba until July of this
year.
However she definitely cannot extend any longer !
For more than a year now we are searchimng for a replacement person (or
couple) by posting a job advertisement (see catbalangur.de/
vacancies.html
or the attachment below) on the usual internet fora known to us. Few
qualified candidates applied and the LAST candidate couple had cancelled
their interview yesterday, as they found a better (or better paid) job
elsewhere.
If no miracle happens, the project will be functionally dead by July.
As a result the Cat Ba langur may eventually still go extinct, and
several
hundred thousand US$ invested into the project over the last seven years
will be wasted. Unfortunately, despite seven years of hard work by Rosi,
people in politics, amdinstration etc. on Cat Ba, who care about
survival
of the species are still a minority and we clearly cannot (or not yet)
count on them to ensure survival of the species. To the contrary, we
know
that word is already spreading on Cat Ba about "the project" leaving in
July, and the former poachers and corrupt individuals in
adminstration are
already re-joking.
Unfortunately nothing writing here is an exaggeration. Our last hope now
is that through you (the people on these e-mail circulation) we still
may
find the right person(s) to replace Rosi. If you know of any individual
(or couple) potentially interested in and qualified for this job, please
ask him/her/them to get in touch with my colleague
Dr. Martina Raffel ([EMAIL PROTECTED])
immediately.
Thank you and best wishes,
Roland Wirth
