Natural Resources Seasonal or Internship in Environmental Assessment Join the team responsible for conserving, restoring, and caring for nearly 3,500 acres of natural area throughout Champaign County, Illinois. This is a part-time position. Responsibilities The Natural Resources Seasonal or Intern in Environmental Assessment is responsible for assisting Natural Resources Staff with developing recommendations that will lead to more environmentally sound daily operations, increased credibility with the public, and increased financial savings at the Champaign County Forest Preserve District. Education and Knowledge Ideal candidate should be working towards a 2 year or 4 year degree. Candidate should possess an interest in environmentally sustainable business practices. Candidates should be prepared to work with a variety of departments, individuals, and volunteers. Experience with restoration or conservation of natural areas will be helpful. Candidates must be able to communicate clearly orally and in writing and have a valid Illinois drivers license. Primary Objectives The person selected to fill this seasonal or internship position will be responsible for evaluating and suggesting improvements for sustainable practices in the following areas: Product ordering (e.g. cleaning and office supplies) Waste reduction (e.g. recycling and composting programs) Energy reduction (e.g. lighting, climate control, and fuel usage) This list contains only a sample of the areas in which the Champaign County Forest Preserve District would like to recognize improved environmental actions and should not be considered exhaustive. Expectations Weekly meetings are expected with the Assistant Director of Natural Resources. Visits to all four CCFPD sites will be necessary in order to evaluate the current status of operations and make recommendations. A final written report including assessment of current practices and recommendations for improvements in environmental actions is required. Writing about the project for the CCFPD website is also expected. For the right candidate, hours may be flexible. This position will report to Lake of the Woods Forest Preserve in Mahomet, Illinois. This position is an internship or part-time seasonal position not to exceed 240 hours per year. Pay rate is $8.50/hr to $9.00/hr, based on experience.
