UNIVERSITY OF CALIFORNIA, SANTA CRUZ, DEPARTMENT OF OCEAN SCIENCES

The University of California invites applications for a Specialist in the
Department of Ocean Sciences, under the direction of Professor Jonathan
Zehr. Candidate will participate in research on distribution and activity of
microorganisms involved in nitrogen fixation in open ocean and coastal
environments.

RANK: Junior Specialist I – Associate Specialist III (1-2 positions available)

SALARY: $33,672 - $55,464, commensurate with qualifications and experience

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: B.S., M.S., or Ph.D. in biology or related
discipline. Basic knowledge of personal computers and use of basic 
spreadsheet and word processing software required.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Background in biology, experience with basic
molecular biology techniques such as PCR, DNA sequencing. Knowledge of basic
UNIX commands preferable. Marine/molecular microbiology background
preferable. Bioinformatics experience desired.

POSITION AVAILABLE: As soon as possible after closing date.

TERM OF APPOINTMENT: One year, with possible extension, contingent upon
availability of funding and positive performance review.
