MSc Studentship in fish ecology
Mapping morphological differences in the Icelandic cod population and
compare those to possible spawning stock components in Iceland and to cod
from Greenland and the Faroe. This studentship provides the exciting
opportunity for the student who will be seconded to the Marine Research
Institute (MRI) in Iceland where they will spend the majority of their
time.

The student will investigate morphological differences in cod sampled from
all around Iceland, along with samples from Greenland and the Faroe with
the aim of mapping morphological variation in characteristics of cod. Then
further to relate these to ideas about spawning stock components of
Icelandic cod and map differences between Greenland and Faroe cod. This
studentship aims to improve knowledge about morphological variation in cod
and how to relate this to management advice for sustainable utilization of
cod in the future

The candidate should have an BSc in biology/ecology and an interest in
ecology, statistics and evolutionary biology. The studentship is for two
years and will cover tuition fees and living expenses in Iceland. This
project is a joint venture between the MRI, University of Iceland and the
University of Holar.
