2008 Summer Employment Invasive species in a changing climate Our lab is seeking motivated students to assist with a experiment measuring the effect of climate variation on reproduction in the invasive plant, Lythrum salicaria (purple loosestrife). The project will require 3-4 days per week (~24 hours/week) at either (1) Blandy Experimental Farm in Boyce, Virginia, or (2) a field site in Timmins, Ontario. The project runs May through October, but starting and ending dates are flexible. Duties will include careful monitoring and measuring of seedlings as well as care for and watering of adult plants. The ideal candidates will be self-motivated and efficient, will be able to follow instructions meticulously and work independently, will pay careful attention to detail, and will not be afraid of performing repetitive tasks under field conditions.
Beginning and ending dates of employment are flexible. Successful applicants will receive $250 per week plus travel expenses.
