        NOTICE OF OPENING 
        
Applications for “Project Manager, Panama Canal Watershed Ecosystem Services 
Project “Agua 
Salud Project” ” will be accepted effective immediately. 

Location of Position:  Earl Tupper Center, Ancon, Panama

Major duties and responsibilities:

Oversee and coordinate operations of the Agua Salud Project (Panama Canal 
Ecosystem-Services 
Project).  In coordination with the Principal Investigators, the Project 
Manager coordinates 
operations, planning, and implementation with local and international 
institutional partners and 
collaborators; including leading regular meetings with staff and researchers 
from the Smithsonian 
Tropical Research Institute (STRI), Panama Canal Authority (ACP) and Panamanian 
Environmental 
Authority (ANAM).     

The Project Manager is responsible for land and site management, including 
leading discussions 
on overall land management and making decisions related to land-use plans (with 
particular 
emphasis on reforestation, infrastructure, and security).  

Facilitates and/or oversees the collection of data (weather, hydrological 
monitoring, moisture and 
carbon in eddy flux towers, interception and through fall data in different 
land uses, vegetation 
monitoring, etc.).    Supervises technicians associated with data gathering.

The Project Manager manages staff and contracts related to site management and 
equipment 
instillation and maintenance and serves as liaison with other projects and 
institutions.  The Project 
Manager is charged with leading community-relations efforts in and around the 
Agua Salud focal 
Research Area (Giral de Buena Vista and El Limon).

Requirements:
 
•       A Master’s or higher degree in forestry, terrestrial ecology, natural 
resource management, or 
closely related discipline
•       Minimum 3 to 5 years of land management or field research experience 
(this may include 
time spent in the field in pursuit of a graduate degree) with a strong emphasis 
in applied research 
is preferred
•       Strong oral and written communication skills, including the ability to 
give presentations in 
public or professional meetings
•       Strong organizational skills and prior supervisory experience
•       Demonstrated experience working in a highly interdisciplinary and 
collaborative setting 
preferred
•       Experience managing budgets
•       English and Spanish language ability required  
•       Excellent knowledge of word processing (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, 
Internet)
•       Knowledge of database management
•       Excellent interpersonal relations
