DEEVEY AWARD FOR 2008 (for a student presentation in Paleoecology at the Summer ESA Meeting)
At each annual Ecological Society of America meeting the Paleoecology Section supports an award for students in memory of Edward S. Deevey. We urge you to apply for the award if you are a student or encourage your students to apply if you are a faculty member. The application form for the award is available on the ESA home page at http://www.esa.org/aboutesa/awards.php . Pleae send completed application forms to Dr. Jason Lynch at [EMAIL PROTECTED] . PLEASE NOTE: The email address for Dr. Lynch on the ESA webpage is incorrect. The requirements for the Deevey Award are as follows: A candidate for the award must be the sole or first author of the submitted abstract, and prepare and present himself an oral paper or poster at the ESA Annual Meeting. The candidate must be a graduate student or have completed a masters or doctoral degree not more than 9 months before the presentation. The presentation must describe research used for the graduate degree; evaluation criteria are similar to those used for the ESA Buell and Braun Awards. A student can apply several times in consecutive years as long as he or she meets the above qualifications and has not won the award before. The current value of the award is $300. To qualify for the Deevey Award this year, a student must have already submitted an abstract to ESA. We encourage all students with submitted abstracts on a paleoecological theme to apply for the Award.
