GRADUATE POSITION M.Sc. in Natural Resources and Environmental Studies University of Northern British Columbia, Prince George, BC, Canada
A graduate position (M.Sc.) is available Sept 2008 in the Ecosystem Science and Management program at the University of Northern British Columbia (www.unbc.ca). Currently, in the central interior of British Columbia, a massive outbreak of mountain pine beetle is declining, while populations of secondary bark beetles are simultaneously increasing. The project entails studying the impacts of these secondaries on small diameter trees. Suitable candidates will have a B.Sc. in biology, entomology, forestry, or similar degree at a recognized, post-secondary institution. The ideal candidate will have experience in field research settings and an interest in community ecology. The project will be supervised by Dr. Brian Aukema of the Canadian Forest Service at UNBC (http://web.unbc.ca/~aukema). Collaborators include Dr. Allan Carroll of the Canadian Forest Service and Dr. Staffan Lindgren at the University of Northern British Columbia. Support is available for two years. Interested candidates are invited to direct their questions and/or a vita/resume, a paragraph outlining their interest(s), and the names of three references to <Brian.Aukema AT nrcan.gc.ca>. UNBC, located in Prince George, British Columbia, Canada, offers a stellar environment for training in forest entomology, with four forest entomologists collectively working from gene to landscape levels. UNBC provides access to different forest ecosystems, a landscape regenerating after the recent mountain pine beetle epidemic, two research forests, and faculty with expertise in an array of forest ecosystem topics. Prince George (pop. 80,000) enjoys a low cost of living yet high quality lifestyle. Outdoor recreational opportunities are unlimited (hiking, mountain biking, camping, fishing, snowsports, etc.). ------------------------------------------- Brian Aukema, MS, MS, PhD Research Scientist, Canadian Forest Service http://web.unbc.ca/~aukema University of Northern British Columbia ADM 2019, 3333 University Way Prince George, BC V2N 4Z9 Tel: 250-960-5924 Fax: 250-960-6496 -------------------------------------------
