I am making my own pan lysimeters, and have purchased some fine gravel to pack them with. In a couple of places I've seen people note that they filled theirs with acid washed material (sand or gravel), but I have not seen any references as to the methods for this. I know I can purchase acid washed & ignited sand, but I'm trying to save my money.
Anyone have advice on what acid to use? I'm planning on using these in an 15N addition experiment, so nitric acid is out. Other advice about methods? Thanks, Libby
