WEBSITE and DATABASE DEVELOPMENT INTERN
Bushmeat Crisis Task Force
Bushmeat Crisis Task Force (BCTF)
is a consortium of conservation organizations and
scientists dedicated to the conservation of
wildlife populations threatened by unsustainable
commercial hunting. Since 1999, the BCTF has
worked to keep its members informed of
opportunities to address the bushmeat crisis,
leverage information and funding to improve conservation results in the field.
BCTFs core mandate is to identify and share
information regarding the bushmeat crisis with
our stakeholders, including policy makers,
scientists, conservationists, media and the
public. Our longest-running project is the
Bushmeat Listserv, which is compiled weekly and
distributed to our global network of more than
350 professionals working on the bushmeat crisis.
The Bushmeat IMAP (see
<http://www.bushmeat.org/imap>www.bushmeat.org/imap
for more details) is an initiative developed by
BCTF to create a central repository of
information on the causes and solutions of
bushmeat hunting, consumption and trade
worldwide. Currently, the IMAP has three
components: the digital library, an interactive
map tool of factors influencing bushmeat trade
and a geo-referenced database of projects on
bushmeat related issues. Recently BCTF has
developed a fourth component: a Project
Assessment Framework to evaluate the impact and
effectiveness of bushmeat projects carried on the
ground. Targeted work to finalize the development of this framework is needed.
The overall objective of this new framework is to
re-create conceptual models for each project in
the database and for any region selected by the
user, in order to understand the state of
biodiversity, threats to conserving biodiversity,
actions taken to mitigate conservation pressures
and, in the future, measure the efficiency and impacts of interventions.
BCTF is seeking a website and database
development intern (full time) to start
