For a research project on the effect of fragmentation in urban
habitats the Swiss Federal Research Institute WSL of Birmensdorf and
Bellinzona (http://www.wsl.ch), SWILD Zurich (http://www.swild.ch ),
and the Institute for Terrestrial Ecosystems, Ecosystem Management at
the ETH of Zurich, Prof. J. Ghazoul (http://www.ecology.ethz.ch) are
offering for January 2009 a
PhD position in urban ecology
The candidate will investigate the effect of fragmentation on spatial
patterns of selected species and invertebrate communities in urban
environments; radio-track hedgehogs; sample and identify flying and
ground-dwelling invertebrates such as bees, carabid beetles or snails;
analyze their functional assemblage with uni- and multivariate
techniques and publish the results in international journals.
