I.M. Systems Group, Inc. (IMSG) www.imsg.com is looking to hire a 
Fisheries Habitat Restoration Specialist to work at the National Oceanic 
and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Restoration Center (RC) to assist 
the Southwest/Pacific Islands Team in the oversight and implementation of 
habitat restoration and marine debris projects in the Pacific Islands 
region, which includes the Hawaiian archipelago, American Samoa, Guam, and 
the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands.  The restoration 
specialist will be based at NOAA Fisheries Service, Pacific Islands 
Regional Office (PIRO) in Honolulu, HI and will serve under the direction 
of the RC's Southwest Regional Supervisor (Santa Rosa, CA.) and Assistant 
Regional Administrator, Habitat Conservation Division, PIRO. The 
successful candidate will work under an annually renewable contract 
(subject to the availability of funding) with NOAA.

Responsibilities:

•       Provide restoration planning and oversight expertise to support 
NOAA's Community-based Restoration Program which provides funding and 
technical assistance to organizations to implement habitat restoration and 
marine debris projects that benefit living marine resources.  
•       Identify and evaluate restoration/marine debris projects for 
potential funding, participate on multi-disciplinary teams to plan and 
execute restoration/marine debris projects, and provide technical 
assistance to local organizations in developing proposals for and 
implementing restoration/marine debris projects. 
•       Oversee projects throughout the Pacific Islands region from the 
main Hawaiian Islands and the northwestern Hawaiian Islands to the U.S. 
Pacific Islands territories.  Restoration projects may involve tidal 
wetlands, riparian/riverine habitats, and coral reefs.  There will be a 
particular emphasis on coral reef ecology and restoration projects 
involving invasive aquatic species control, upland erosion control, and 
watershed restoration, as well as marine debris removal and prevention. 
•       The job will involve the following: field investigations 
(including site evaluation, and baseline and post-restoration monitoring); 
technical evaluation of proposals, project design and/or engineering 
plans, outreach campaigns; development of project scopes of work; project 
oversight; and public outreach and education.  
•       Close interaction with various components of NOAA, other federal, 
state and local government agencies, academic institutions, non-profit 
organizations, and industry will be essential. 
•       Represent PIRO and provide oversight for various marine debris 
projects, programs and regional initiatives.
 


Requirements:

Required Qualifications:
•       Candidates should possess a solid knowledge of the Pacific Islands 
coastal and marine ecosystems, monitoring methods for specific habitat 
types and resources, and life histories and habitat requirements of coral 
and fish species.  
•       Candidates with strong backgrounds in coral reef conservation, 
hydrology, and outreach/education are especially encouraged to apply. 
•       Candidates should have strong oral and written communication 
skills, including the ability to communicate clearly with the public and 
non-scientists.  
•       Willingness to travel within the region is a must.  
•       All applicants must be U.S. Citizens or permanent resident aliens 
from U.S. colleges or universities.  

Desirable Qualifications:
•       Experience with applied habitat restoration.
•       Experience with state and Federal regulatory processes; knowledge 
and/or experience working with the Federal Endangered Species Act (Section 
7), National Environmental Policy Act, and National Historic Preservation 
Act Section 106.
•       Experience working on interdisciplinary teams.  
•       Experience with grants management and/or grant programs.

Education Requirements:

•       Candidates should possess a Masters degree in one of the marine 
sciences, fishery biology, ecology, hydrology, or a related field.   A 
candidate with a Bachelors degree with relevant work and field experience 
will be considered.
