Dear List Members.

Can anyone share citations or experience regarding salt tolerance of
amphibians (particularly northeastern US toads and frogs)? In a tidal salt
marsh I have observed tadpoles in pools that may be as high as 20-30 ppt
salinity. American toads call from the fringes of the marsh but could be
laying in nearby freshwater ponds. I have seen records of some species of
Rana and Xenopus using brackish water and Rana cancrivora living in full
salinity in southeastern Asia.

Thank you for any help.

Sincerely,

Scott Ruhren
