Dear List Members.
Can anyone share citations or experience regarding salt tolerance of amphibians (particularly northeastern US toads and frogs)? In a tidal salt marsh I have observed tadpoles in pools that may be as high as 20-30 ppt salinity. American toads call from the fringes of the marsh but could be laying in nearby freshwater ponds. I have seen records of some species of Rana and Xenopus using brackish water and Rana cancrivora living in full salinity in southeastern Asia. Thank you for any help.
