Mahogany for the Future, Inc., Call for Proposals
Mahogany for the Future, Inc., is dedicated to
ensuring the future of the neo-tropical timber
species of the family Meliaceae. We are starting our
operations by sponsoring a small grants program, with
one award of $2000. The theme will be a research or
community project focused on successful regeneration
of mahogany (Swietenia spp.) or Spanish Cedar
(Cedrela spp.) in a country within the native range
of one of these species. This competition is open to
graduate students at US institutions, (US citizens or
otherwise). Projects should include a local
in-country partner (could be farmer, community group,
NGO, etc.) who will participate in the implementation
and assessment of the project. Projects based on
needs defined in conjunction with the local partner
are preferred.
Please submit a proposal in MSWord or rich text
(three pages maximum) on 8.5 x 11 inch paper with 1

methodology, 3) expected outcomes, 4) how project
success will be assessed, 5) budget and budget
