Molecular Biology Technician
Located in Wilmington, OH and Dayton, OH


Basic Function:

Responsible for characterization of microsatellite loci in an endangered sedge (Scirpus ancistrochaetus) and subsequent investigation of patterns of geographic genetic diversity.


Duties and Responsibilities:

1.        DNA isolation of plant samples.
2. Evaluation of existing microsatellite primers, previously developed for related species, Schoenoplectus americanus. If use of these primers is not ideal, work on construction of genomic library for Scirpus ancistrochaetus.
3.        PCR amplification and visualization using appropriate primers.
4. Analysis of PCR data to characterize geographic diversity.
5.        Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
1.        Advanced degree in biological sciences preferred.  .
2. Self-motivated individual with independent experience with molecular techniques is required.
3.        Experience in microsatellites a plus.

Other information:
1. The Molecular Biology Technician will be employed by Wilmington College. While some work will occur on the Wilmington College campus in Wilmington, OH, a large portion of the work will take place at the Center for Evolutionary, Ecological and Environmental Genomics located in the Department of Biological Sciences at Wright State University in Dayton, OH. 2. The position will be co-supervised by Kendra Cipollini, Wilmington College, and Don Cipollini, Wright State University. 3. 800 hours total available at $10/hour. Preferred schedule is 20 hours/week for 40 weeks. Position ends on or before June 30, 2009.
