The Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR)
(another Massachusetts state agency in charge of forests and parks,

ecologist/planner. The application period closes 9-10-08. The full

DUTIES:
The ecologist will train and collaborate with DCR property, district,
regional staffs, consultants, interns, and other staff relative to
ecological inventories, assessments, reports, and plans, and will
supervise other program ecologists.

Conduct ecological assessments of DCR properties including data
gathering, baseline inventories, monitoring and will utilize ongoing
networking relative to these tasks.

Coordinate rare species and habitat management and regulatory compliance
for such at DCR properties. 

Maintain ongoing liaison with ecologists and biologists from other
state, federal, or non-governmental organizations, especially with
Massachusetts Division of Fisheries and Wildlife Natural Heritage and
Endangered Species program.

Actively participate in ecological partnerships and task forces, related
to protection of key habitats on DCR properties, including wetlands and
vernal pools, grasslands, barrier beaches, islands, peaks and ridges,
and other significant ecological communities.

Conduct ecological assessments of potential and/or recent land
acquisition properties.

Prepare ecological reports and recommendations for use in DCR facility
rehab, operations and maintenance and overall ecological management
efforts.

Monitor or collaborate with contractual monitors at DCR sites and /or
habitats where construction, renovation or restoration of existing or
proposed facilities and infrastructure occurs, and including ecological
restoration.

Conduct or cooperate in training of DCR staff relative to
habitat/species management and protection, habitat assessment,
environmental education, and research/study protocols.

Review and contribute to documents relative to ecological management,
including plans and/or policies authored by DCR staff or other agencies,
where applicable.

Conduct fieldwork, manage consultants, and conduct and participate in
relevant agency meetings to achieve ecological protection goals.

Respond to inquiries from agency staff and thers to provide technical
information pertaining to ecology.

Provide ongoing guidance to DCR staff relative to Scientific Research &
data gathering, information sharing, and study protocols.

Assist with ecological assessments related to DCR's Wildlands program.

Perform other duties as requested.
