Dear Colleagues, I invite you to join a new listserve called "Electrofishing". To subscribe, visit
https://www.fws.gov/lists/listinfo/electrofishing Listserve description: Electrofishing is the application of electricity in water to capture or control fish or other aquatic organisms. It is a valuable sampling tool used for aquatic assessment, fisheries management, research, and aquaculture. Advances in theory have supplemented empirically-derived knowledge and have led to increased efficiency and consistency. Presently, there is particular interest in issues of standardization, catchability, operator safety, fish trauma, specialized equipment, and macroinvertebrate sampling. The intent of this listserve is to enhance communication within an electrofishing “community of practice”- managers, scientists, industry representatives, and others in the public and private sectors that are interested in improving the practice of electrofishing. “Electrofishing” is an international e-mail forum for the discussion of ideas and events pertaining to the practice and theory of electrofishing. For the purposes of this forum, electrofishing is broadly defined to include aspects of fish and invertebrate behavior in electric fields, electric circuit and field theory, equipment design, operator safety, fish and invertebrate trauma, sampling design, standardization, efficiency, gear testing and applications, and any other scientific topics contributing to current understanding and practice of electrofishing. Our hope is that discussion of ideas will predominate as use of the forum evolves, though announcements and news items that are of interest to a broad cross section of practitioners and researchers are welcome.
