MSI is a non-profit research & education organization enhancing the understanding and sustainable use of the San Juan Mountain region. We have offices at Fort Lewis College, Durango and in Silverton, Colorado. MSI conducts environmental and community projects and provides education and information to facilitate informed decisions related to natural resource management, environmental policy, and community planning. The Institute hosts visiting scientists and classes to increase research and education in our region and beyond. RESPONSIBILITIES Lead and assist with MSI projects (approximately 20 hrs per week): • Conduct and coordinate education and outreach activities (including workshops, seminar/field trip series, working groups, radio, web, and printed outreach, etc.). • Collaborate with various partners, including land managers, local government, community organizations, students, and scientists. • Meet deadlines and reporting requirements and work within budget. • Potentially assist in scientific studies. • Write grant proposals for new projects. REQUIRMENTS: • Enthusiasm for the activities of MSI. • Excellent writing and communication skills • Creative thinker, motivated, well organized, efficient • Past project management experience • Bachelors or higher degree in science education, environmental science, or environmental policy • Computer skills (Microsoft Office, GIS, Dreamweaver preferred.) • Grant writing experience preferred.
