Hi Ophelia,
I've not used R, but I have used Winphot and ImageJ do good (and free)
image analysis,-- I believe ImageJ (from NIH) works on Vista. Winphot
was meant *specifically* for hemispherical photos. I imagine it would
take some work to get R to do this since R wasn't built for image
analysis like these programs...

Winphot cannot be installed under my Vista 64-bit, but it may work for
vista 32-bit or xp. ImageJ is also available fpr Mac and Linux and I
was able to install it.

Subject: [R-sig-eco] Analyzing hemispheric photos in R?

Hi all,
The pre-installed Windows Vista 64-bit in my new laptop does not
support Gap Light Analyzer. Has anyone used R to analyze
hemispheric photos and calculate % canopy openness, LAI, etc.?
Which package can be used for that? Thanks a lot!
Ophelia
