I am working on an article on the recent involvement of the IUCN in various
business ventures - including a controversial Port project near one of the
world's largest sea turtle rookeries in Orissa India (the Dhamra Port) and
an agreement between the Director General of IUCN and Shell, which met with
opposition from many internal members including the Chair of IUCN's CEESP
(Commission on Environmental, Economic and Social Policy). There's also some
agreement with the cement giant Holcim.

I am having a difficult time contacting anyone involved in the issue -
probably due to the controversy. Was wondering if anyone on Ecolog is
familiar with either of these projects and/or had any thoughts about the
respected IUCN getting involved in such close partnerships with business
interests that might compromise their scientific integrity or reputation (or
the appearance of it).

Thanks for any info.
