With the support from the U.S. National Science Foundation, the "International
Network of Research on Coupled Human and Natural Systems" (CHANS-Net,
http://www.chans-net.org/) is pleased to call for applications for the CHANS
Fellowships. The selected CHANS Fellows will attend the symposium "Complexity
in Human-Nature Interactions Across Landscapes". They will have opportunities
to interact with the speakers at the symposium who are active leaders in CHANS
research, to learn the latest developments in CHANS research, and to build
professional networks with other attendees. The symposium will be held at the
annual meeting of USIALE (US Regional Association, International Association
for Landscape Ecology) in Snowbird, Utah, from April 12-16, 2009

Approximately 5-10 fellowships (up to $1,000 each) will be given for the
selected graduate students, postdoctoral associates, junior faculty members,
and/or other junior researchers in other institutions to defray expenses
associated with attending the meeting. Applications will be judged on the
merits of the applicants' abstracts, financial need, and professional
backgrounds and goals. Members of under-represented groups are especially
encouraged to apply. All applications must be RECEIVED by December 20, 2008.
The selection will be made by the end of January, 2009.
