The area of specialization is open, but we seek to build program capacity in environmental modeling, statistics, hydrology, management and/or global climate change. Candidates must possess a PhD with a commitment to environmental research and undergraduate education. Experience with undergraduate teaching and postdoctoral research are desirable. Teaching responsibilities include a year-long interdisciplinary general education Freshmen Inquiry class (http://www.pdx.edu/unst/), one sophomore level inquiry course and one departmental course. The successful candidate is expected to work collaboratively within the department and across campus to pursue an active program of scholarly research, publication, and external grant funding. Position begins September 15, 2009. The PSU campus is located in downtown Portland, Oregon and is the fastest growing and most diverse institution in the Oregon University System. Portland is widely rated as one of the most livable cities in the country, with both ocean beaches and mountain ranges within a two hour drive from campus. Abundant research opportunities exist in environmental science and management areas, ranging from local to international levels. In addition to a BachelorĂs degree in environmental science, ESM has over 85 graduate students in three masters degree programs and a doctoral degree program. ESM faculty have cooperative agreements and ongoing research projects with several local, state, national and international institutions, including other several other universities, private corporations and the Smithsonian Environmental Research Center. Compensation: The starting annual salary rate for this position will be between $52,000 and $54,000 dependent upon qualifications and experience, with an excellent benefits package including fully paid healthcare; a generous retirement and vacation package; and reduced tuition rates for employee, spouse or dependent at any of the Oregon University System schools.
