Working Title            Preserve Manager/Supervisor

Job Description - Essential Functions   The Preserve Manager is 
administered by the Chair, Department of Biology, but is responsible 
directly to the Faculty Advisor (the Preserve Director) who represents the 
Department in all preserve and related activities.

Essential Functions:

- Manage the physical resources and ecological quality of the department's 
nature preserves in accordance with objectives identified by the 
Department of Biology
- Coordinate and monitor educational, research, outreach and other uses of 
UNO's preserves
- Supervise part-time employees and volunteers assisting in 
preserve-related activities
- Provide outreach support for individuals and organizations as 
appropriate
- Support restoration and other special efforts associated with preserve 
efforts.
- Reside on-site: small 2-bedroom farmhouse provided including basic 
utilities; Located at Allwine Prairie Preserve (14810 State Street, 
Bennington, NE).

NOTE: A detailed list of duties may be requested from the Department of 
Biology, UNO. 
Job Description - Additional Duties     - Manage preserve budget
- General equipment maintenance
- General grounds maintenance
- Invasive/noxious species management (use of herbicides)
- Participate in all prescribed burns
- Public relations activities including brochures and poster preparation 
and presentations to preserve visitors.
- Coordination and supervision of work study students, interns, and 
volunteers.
- Coordinate research and teaching projects at the preserve
- Coordination and monitoring of preserve activities
- Manage preserve data files.
- Manage environmental monitoring (Water Quality, Water Flow, Siltation, 
Weather Stations) and documentation (Invasive Species Management) 
Required Qualifications         - Bachelors degree in Biology, 
Conservation Biology, Wildlife Management, or related, field-oriented 
discipline including a basic understanding of the process of scientific 
inquiry.
- Strong communication skills.
- Ability to provide outreach (public speaking) for visiting individuals 
and groups.
- Fire training (federal certification) (qualified or physically able to 
be certified).
- Basic farm skills (tractors, fencing, familiarity with farm equipment, 
particularly tractor. 
Preferred Qualifications        - Masters degree in Biology, Conservation 
Biology, Wildlife Management, or related, field-oriented discipline 
including a basic understanding of the process of scientific inquiry.

If not already qualified, willingness to become qualified for the 
following:

- Chainsaw use
- Website maintenance
- Basic ArcGIS qualified, particularly mapping
- Herbicide and chemical certification
