Field work will be conducted on National Forest land and covers a vast range of elevations and habitats, including shrubland, aspen, oak, riparian, and coniferous forest. The positions will be based out of multiple locations in the north, south, and central portions of the Sierra Nevada mountain range. Successful candidates must be able to identify over 80 bird species by sight and sound following two weeks of training, navigate roads and off-road in mountains and forests with maps and GPS. Candidates with a strong background in bird identification by sight and sound and/or previous experience point counting are strongly preferred. For all positions self-motivation, good physical condition, the ability to work well in a group living situation, and willingness to spend long hours in the field observing birds and camping are a must.
