Hello all,

We are hiring several field positions this season and are actively
seeking applicants for a telemetry downloading position in the Columbia
River Gorge, a tagging technician for work at McNary Dam near the
Columbia-Snake rivers confluence, and a field technician for adult
salmon work in the Willamette Basin. Work is seasonal with the
possibility of extension into the fall and spring. General information
on the research program can be found at

MAJOR FUNCTION

Five (5) positions are available for field work to evaluate upstream
passage of adult Chinook salmon and Pacific lamprey in the Columbia
River basin. For these projects, fish will be collected at Bonneville
and McNary Dams, outfitted with radio transmitters and monitored using
fixed and mobile radio receivers as they migrate upstream. An
associated study will also be conducted at Bonneville Dam to evaluate
swimming performance and behavior of adult lamprey in fishways using an
experimental fish ladder. Persons hired for one position may be
required to periodically fill in for another position as needed.

1. Fisheries research at Bonneville Dam (1-2 positions). Assist in
collection and tagging of adult salmon, lamprey and shad with radio
transmitters and recording biological and behavioral data. A second
position will assist in the installation, maintenance, downloading of
radio telemetry equipment along with telemetry data management. Ability
to work nights and weekends, and to accurately and legibly record
biological data required. Experience handling fish and conducting
experimental studies, and knowledge of experimental design techniques
and/or construction experience desired. A valid driver's license, good
driving record, and willingness to work outdoors in periodically adverse
conditions are required. Fieldwork for this project will run from mid
May through mid August with the possibility of extension.

2. Lamprey study at McNary Dam (1 position). Assist with lamprey
radio telemetry project at McNary Dam. Duties will include collecting
and surgically tagging lamprey with radio transmitters and PIT tags,
recording tagging and biological data, and monitoring movements of
radio-tagged fish. May also assist other project personnel downloading
and maintaining telemetry and PIT equipment. Requires ability to
accurately and legibly record data, and willingness to work outdoors in
periodically adverse conditions and the ability to work nights (fish
will be collected at night) and weekends. A valid driver's license and
good driving record required. Fieldwork for this project will run from
early June through September.

3. Juvenile Fall Chinook study on Lower Snake River (3 positions).
Assist in collection and tagging of sub-yearling and yearling fall
Chinook salmon with radio-transmitters. Ability to work nights and
weekends and to accurately and legibly record biological data necessary
and willingness to work outdoors in periodically adverse conditions.
May also assist other project personnel downloading and maintaining
telemetry equipment and radio-tracking juvenile salmon by boat. A valid
driver's license and good driving record required. Fieldwork for this
project will run from early May through December.

4. Fisheries research at Willamette Basin (1-2 positions). Assist
in collection and tagging of adult salmon with radio transmitters and
recording biological and behavioral data. Assist with radio telemety,
mobile tracking, collection of fish tissue samples and spawning ground
surveys. Ability to work nights and weekends, and to accurately and
legibly record biological data required. Experience handling fish and
conducting experimental studies, and knowledge of experimental design
techniques and/or construction experience desired. A valid driver's
license, good driving record, and willingness to work outdoors in
periodically adverse conditions are required. Fieldwork for this
project will run from mid May through mid August with the possibility of
extension.
