JOB SUMMARY: 
The Bureau of Land Management is responsible for some of the most 
beautiful landscapes including forests and rangelands, beaches and 
mountains across more than 15 million acres. These Public Lands include 
more miles of wild and scenic rivers, hundreds of camping, hiking, fishing 
and hunting opportunities and a landscape of varied plants and ecosystems 
for you to simply go explore. 
The duty station for this position is the White River Field Office (WRFO). 
The WRFO proper is 2.6 million acres in size, with 1.5 million acres of 
BLM surface land, 375K acres of National Forest, and 71K acres of Parks 
Service land. Meeker, the location of the WRFO facility, is centrally 
located between Dinosaur National Park and the Flat Tops Wilderness Area.

The incumbent serves as a Geographic Information System (GIS) Specialist, 
providing GIS data development, support, and advice for the application of 
geospatial technologies. This position is responsible for the acquisition 
and management of the wide range of spatial information required to 
support the management of public lands. The incumbent must have an 
effective mix of technical skills in the geographic and computer science 
disciplines as well as a working appreciation of the Bureau mission and 
operational procedures sufficient to support Bureau of Land Management 
(BLM) business activities. 
Note:  This is a temporary position not to exceed 12 months.  This 
position may be extended up to one additional year.  

MAJOR DUTIES:

Incumbent will identify requirements and implement analytical techniques 
necessary to solve GIS issues. Develop and modify GIS software 
applications and interfaces. Serves as a technical specialist for 
activities involving spatial data, provide technical user support for all 
aspects of geospatial data and software. Assists with the implementation 
of quality control and assurance guidelines for geospatial data projects. 
Works with other Federal, State and local agencies to coordinate data 
capture and analysis projects. Represents the office in order to 
facilitate the sharing and distribution of spatial information with other 
Federal, state and local entities. Works with a diverse group of resource 
specialists, planners and managers to implement GIS activities, to 
include, development of project objectives, evaluation of adequacy of 
existing data sources, creation/modification of GIS data, databases, 
analysis, and preparation of final output products. Assists in the 
integration of Enterprise GIS with the long- and short –term planning and 
management activities.
