Hello All,

This is my first post to this list so I felt it would be proper to provide some
background about myself.  My name is Andrew Richardson and I have a B.S. in
psychology.  I have been working in Cambridge, MA for a couple of years doing
research in adult development to prepare myself for graduate school.  During
this time I have presented posters, talks, and symposiums at various
conferences.  Through all of this I have come to the realization that
psychology is not the right field for me!  It is the outdoors that I have
always loved and it is the issues taking place in
 our environment that
 have always aroused my
enthusiasm.  That research in the natural sciences is what I should be doing
is so painfully
obvious now that I do not
know how I did not see it before!  I am particularly interested in ecology,
specifically community and behavioral ecology, which is what brought me to this
list.

With this we reach the present moment and my first plea for advice.  I have
been searching the internet, but I cannot find anything dealing with the
process of getting into a graduate program that is not directly related to
one's current degree.  Would anyone be kind enough to offer advice on this
topic?  If the list is not the best place for this, please feel free to email
me directly at this email ([email protected]).

Also, I was hoping that I could get a consensus about any books which are known
for laying a great foundation in ecology.  Which books are the "must read"
books of ecology, biology, and the natural sciences in general?

Thank you for the help everyone!

Cheers!
Andrew
