The Warner College of Natural Resources (WCNR) at Colorado State University 
(CSU) seeks a Director to lead the Center for Environmental Management of 
Military Lands (CEMML; http://www.cemml.colostate.edu/). The Center is an 
independent, Departmental-level unit within the College, funded through 
external contracts and grants, primarily from the Department of Defense (DoD) 
and other federal and state land management and environmental agencies.

The Center for Environmental Management of Military Lands
The Center, founded in 1991, is internationally recognized for providing 
research, technical expertise and environmental management for the DoD and 
other federal agencies to sustain natural and cultural resources on public 
lands. CEMML's capabilities include:  1) resource inventorying and monitoring, 
2) botanical surveys, 3) cultural resources surveys and studies, 4) 
environmental planning and environmental impact analysis, 5) geospatial mapping 
and analysis, 6) endangered species management and 7) environmental compliance 
support. Additionally, CEMML provides professional training and educational 
opportunities for practitioners and students interested in military and public 
lands management. CEMML employs over 40 technical and administrative staff on 
campus and more than 300 professionals at military installations throughout the 
U.S. The Center Director and Executive Committee serve in multifaceted roles as 
center administrators, supervisors, program mangers and project lea!
 ders.

Position Appointment and Conditions
The Director will be appointed as a full-time Administrative Professional, and 
may be eligible for a non-tenure track, joint faculty appointment within one of 
the College's four academic departments. The position reports to the Dean and 
serves on the College Executive Committee. The Director will be responsible to 
the CEMML Executive Committee in accordance with the CEMML Code.
The Director's position is funded through a combination of indirect costs 
generated by the Center's annual contracts/grants revenue and independent 
research/teaching.

Responsibilities
The Director works with the CEMML Executive committee, the CEMML External 
Advisory Committee, and the WCNR Executive Committee to coordinate CEMML 
programs.  The Director chairs and is a voting member of the CEMML Executive 
Committee. Additionally, the Director is responsible for securing project 
funding to support a portion of the full-time position. Start-up funding is 
provided.
The Director has responsibility to:
*     Promote the CEMML mission
*     Provide leadership in the execution of CEMML, College, and University 
policies and goals
*     Oversee financial, personnel, and facility resources
*     Oversee CEMML research and outreach programs
*     Generate and maintain grants, agreements and contracts to help support 
and enhance the Center's programs and personnel
*     Develop and sustain positive relationships with external organizations, 
agencies and customers in support of the CEMML mission
*     Foster interdisciplinary collaboration for research, outreach and 
teaching/learning through interactions with the College and University
*     Develop and lead strategic planning activities

Required Qualifications
*     Ph.D., or an M.S. with equivalent experience of at least 10 years, in 
environmental, natural, or cultural resource science or closely related 
discipline

Desired Qualifications
*     Significant environmental management experience (10 or more years)
*     Demonstrated leadership and ethics in managing technical and 
multi-disciplinary organizations, teams and programs
*     Demonstrated record of obtaining and administering contracts and grants 
in natural and/or cultural or related fields
*     Excellent written communication and public speaking skills
*     Record of publication in the scientific and/or gray literature
*     Preference for candidates experienced with environmental and/or cultural 
resources issues on DoD lands

Salary and Benefits
