The United States Department of Agriculture, Agricultural Research Service,
Northern Plains Agricultural Research Laboratory, Pest Management Research
Unit in Sidney, Montana (www.ars.usda.gov/npa/nparl) is seeking a permanent
full-time Research Ecologist/ Entomologist as a lead investigator in
biological control of invasive plants of the Northern Great Plains. The
specific assignment focuses on the characterization of ecological
interactions affecting natural enemies and invasive weeds; the effects of
abiotic and biotic factors on natural enemy population dynamics and host
plant impact; host-specificity studies; implementation of potential
arthropod biocontrol agents; and long-term field assessment and monitoring.
The ultimate goal of the research is to minimize impacts of invasive plant
populations, provide tools for integrated pest management and reduce
herbicide use, and quantify the ecological benefits and risks of biological
control.
