I am seeking applicants for the Killam Postdoctoral Fellowship. Every year
the Killam Trusts award one postdoctoral fellowship at the University of
Calgary to an outstanding scholar, no more than 2 years post-PhD, to
consolidate his or her training, conduct original research, and participate
in the intellectual life of the host department. Awards may be made in any
field of the sciences, social sciences, or arts. In practice several recent
award winners have come from my department (Biological Sciences). Start date
is May 1 - Sept. 1, 2010.

Research in my lab addresses fundamental questions in population, community,
and evolutionary dynamics, using a combination of mathematical modeling and
experiments in tractable model systems such as laboratory microcosms.
However, I encourage applicants to propose their own research projects.
Prospective applicants are encouraged to contact me in advance to discuss
potential research projects. For more on my lab see
<http://homepages.ucalgary.ca/~jefox/Home.htm>.

The Dept. of Biological Sciences includes a strong group of approximately 20
ecologists and evolutionary biologists, with particular strengths in
population ecology, evolutionary ecology, and aquatic ecology. Available
research facilities include greenhouses, experimental ponds and mesocosms,
and two field stations. The university is located close to a range of field
sites including alpine, prairie, pond, lake, and riverine systems. For more
on the Dept. of Biological Sciences see <http://www.bio.ucalgary.ca/>

Salary is $45,000 (Canadian) per year for 2 years, plus a one-time
relocation and research allowance of $6000. The award includes health benefits.

The University of Calgary is a large research university located in the
prairies less than an hour's drive from the Canadian Rockies. Calgary is one
of Canada's largest and fastest-growing cities (pop. 1,000,000), and is
known for its excellent range of indoor and outdoor recreational
opportunities. For more on the University of Calgary see
<http://www.ucalgary.ca/>

Application deadline is Dec. 1. However, each dept. of the university is
only allowed to forward one applicant. Therefore, applications should be
submitted to me on or around Nov. 1 in case my dept. must choose from among
multiple applicants.
