The School works in close industry collaboration on a range of projects in plant ecology and conservation biology. It provides leading-edge training to undergraduate and postgraduate students through its wide teaching and research programs.

We are seeking a highly motivated and dynamic candidate, capable of undertaking world-class research in basic and applied plant ecology as part of a new Centre for Intervention Ecology. Applicants must have a PhD or equivalent in ecology or a related discipline. We seek a person to conduct world-class empirical and/or theoretical research which aims to contribute to the development and testing of current and emerging ecological concepts, including novel ecosystems, threshold dynamics and resilience. Some assistance with relocation expenses (if applicable) may be negotiated.

For further information regarding the position please contact the Australian Laureate Fellow, Professor Richard Hobbs on +61 (0)8 6488 4691 or email <mailto:[email protected]>[email protected].

ROLE STATEMENT

As part of the activities to be undertaken with funding associated with an Australian Laureate Fellowship, Professor Richard Hobbs is developing a new Centre for Intervention Ecology. This centre will focus on research which aims to improve the effectiveness of ecosystem and landscape management in Australia and elsewhere, through increased understanding of ecosystem dynamics in rapidly changing environments. The appointee will conduct empirical and/or theoretical research which aims to contribute to the development and testing of current and emerging ecological concepts, including novel ecosystems, threshold dynamics and resilience, in order to provide a comprehensive conceptual toolkit to apply to the understanding of ecosystem dynamics and the outcomes of intervention in a rapidly changing world.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Conduct high quality empirical and/or theoretical research on ecosystem dynamics in rapidly changing environments In collaboration with other researchers in the group, develop and synthesise key ecological concepts and test these empirically against real-world interventions in diverse ecosystems.
Assist in the writing of refereed journal articles
Assist in the supervision of honours and postgraduate student projects
Present research findings at national and international conferences and workshops Assist in the translation of research findings into practical management goals and strategies Participate in the Centre's activities and contribute to group projects, workshops and other processes
