The Texas Water Development Board (TWDB) is seeking an Environmental Flows Specialist (Natural Resource Specialist or Hydrologist) to join the Bays and Estuaries (B&E) Team in the Surface Water Resources Division at the agencys headquarters in Austin, Texas. The B&E Team is one section within a highly technical division of the agency, which is charged with maintaining a continuous data collection, modeling, and analytical study program focused on determining the needs for freshwater inflows to Texas estuaries.
Salary range: $3,333- $4,513 *Salary commensurate with experience and qualifications. Description of Position for Natural Resource Specialist II-IV/ Hydrologist II-IV (Posting Number 10-12): Serve as a coastal scientist in support of the Bays & Estuaries Program and the Senate Bill 3 process on environmental flows, primarily focusing on determining freshwater inflow needs for Texas estuaries. Serve as liaison at public meetings with stakeholders and scientific committees and communicate analyses and results to general and technical audiences. Support continued evaluation of freshwater inflow recommendations for major estuaries in Texas, while assisting in the development of methodologies for minor estuaries. Provide technical support in the planning, execution, and summary of scientific field studies, which includes analyzing ecological and/or hydrological data. Work under limited to minimal supervision with considerable latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. Travel equal to 25% time. We are seeking a graduate from an accredited four-year college or university with a bachelors degree in biology, aquatic or marine science, environmental science, hydrology or related field PLUS a Graduate degree in water resources, water quality, aquatic or wetland science, statistics, or related field. OR Three years experience in water resources, aquatic sciences or related field. The candidate should have knowledge and skills in scientific research and analysis of aquatic, wetland, or estuarine ecosystems; knowledge of environmental flows; an ability to effectively communicate technical issues to general and technical audiences; an ability to conduct field work.
