COASTAL ECOLOGIST:  
The Texas Water Development Board (TWDB) is seeking an Ecologist (Natural
Resource Specialist) to join the Bays and Estuaries (B&E) Team in the
Surface Water Resources Division at the agency’s headquarters in Austin,
Texas.  The B&E Team is one section within a highly technical division of
the agency, which is charged with maintaining a continuous data collection,
modeling, and analytical study program focused on determining the needs for
freshwater inflows to Texas estuaries.  

Salary range: $3,333- $4,513   *Salary commensurate with experience and
qualifications.

Description of Position for Natural Resource Specialist II-IV (Posting
Number 10-11):

Conduct field studies and ecological analyses and modeling in support of the
Bays & Estuaries Program, including work in support of determining
freshwater inflow needs for Texas estuaries. Oversee and participate in the
planning, execution, and summary of scientific field studies. Manage data
resources and monitoring programs, including developing and revising
procedural guides. Support continued evaluation of freshwater inflow
recommendations for major estuaries in Texas. Serve as liaison at public
meetings with stakeholders and scientific committees and communicate
analyses and results to general and technical audiences. Work under limited
to minimal supervision with considerable latitude for the use of initiative
and independent judgment.  Ability to conduct field work as needed.  Travel
equal to 20% time.

We are seeking a graduate from an accredited four-year college or university
with a bachelor’s degree in biology, aquatic or marine science, or related
field PLUS a Graduate degree in water resources, water quality, aquatic or
wetland science, statistics, or related field. AND Two years experience in
scientific research of aquatic, wetland, or estuarine ecosystems, which may
include experience gained while conducting thesis/dissertation research,
internships, paid research assistantships, or job experience. 

The candidate should have knowledge and skills in analysis of estuarine
ecosystems; knowledge of scientific, engineering, statistical and/or
hydrological principles and techniques; knowledge of quantitative analyses
of biological communities, population dynamics, and/or aquatic productivity.
