"the Biogeochemistry and Geomorphology of Biological Invasion"

presented within the Frontiers in Biogeochemistry sessions
(http://www.goldschmidt2010.org/themes?theme=16).

Abstract submissions will begin January 1, 2010 with a deadline of February
21, 2010.

Invasive species can have a profound impact upon geochemical,
microbiological, and geomorphic processes. These impacts are manifested at
all ecosystem scales from soil mineralogical and microbial community
structure to regional hydrology, plant community structure, and sediment
transport. While the degree and direction of perturbations are routinely
reported, it is challenging to quantify how the rates and coupled effects of
geochemical, microbiological, and geomorphic processes are altered by
invasion. In fact, the coupling of geochemical and geomorphic processes to
biological invasion may be a key factor needed to address a common critique
of ecosystem studies in that they neglect the population dynamics of
organisms that have significant feedbacks with their own habitat.

This session invites papers that address these emerging challenges in
understanding the impacts to and adaptations of terrestrial and aquatic
ecosystems resulting from the natural or anthropogenic introduction of
invasive species. We are honored to have Dr Patrick Bohlen, Director of
the MacArthur Agro-ecology Research Center as our keynote speaker, and Dr
Thomas Boutton, Department of Ecosystem Science and Management, Texas A&M
University as our invited speaker. Please join us for this exciting cross
disciplinary gathering of scientists.

We sincerely hope you can join us for this meeting. If you have specific
questions please contact us.
