Register Now for the Delta Urbanism Symposium at APA’s National Planning
Conference
Saturday April 10 – Tuesday, April 13, 2010
New Orleans, LA

Where bodies of water converge, so too do people and ideas. Delta regions
have long been foci for communities of all types. In 2010, the Mississippi
Delta will become the focus of APA’s National Planning Conference.
Thousands of planners, officials, and professionals in related fields will
converge on New Orleans for the conference—and for APA’s first-ever
conference-wide symposium on climate change, this year examining delta cities.

With the Mississippi Delta serving as a living laboratory, the Delta
Urbanism Symposium at APA’s National Planning Conference will explore the
growth, development, and management of cities in river deltas around the
world. Researchers and practitioners will discuss ways to balance various,
often competing, goals: urbanization, economic development, flood defense,
public safety, ecological balance, and quality of life. It will be the
first of many discussions about the ways climate change is affecting coastal
areas globally. Solving the issues of climate change, disaster mitigation,
and environmental conservation require a team approach. Our conference is
always enriched by the participation of our friends and allies in related
NGOs, foundations, and government leaders.

Be sure to register for APA’s 2010 National Planning Conference to take part
in this groundbreaking exploration of climate change.
