Camp Emerald Bay is looking for qualified volunteers to spend a month or
more on Catalina Island, helping us as we develop an environmental
education program for the thousands of young adults we host every year.
Work will include outdoor work in our garden and compost facility, which
has 7 planter beds, native plant landscaping, and large compost bins.
Other work can be individually tailored to meet the volunteer's learning
objectives. Though the position is unpaid, it can offer many of the
same learning opportunities of an internship.
Emerald Bay is a camp located on the west end of the island, off the
California coast. A far cry from the bustling tourist destination of
Avalon, the West End offers camp staff unparalleled opportunities for
hiking, trail running, swimming, snorkeling, mountain biking, kayaking,
camping, and many more activities. A “run into town” requires some
planning, as the nearest town of Two Harbors is a 30-minute drive down
dirt roads; but the island’s spectacular beauty and atmosphere more than
make up for any lack of modern conveniences.
