Ecologgers, I live in NY state which has recently proposed a number of budget cuts in order to curb our state deficit. Among these cuts are a number of proposed closures of state parks and trails (see: http://nysparks.state.ny.us/newsroom/press-releases/release.aspx?r=776 and http://www.ptny.org/). A local grassroots organization (Parks and Trails NY) is coordinating a few advocacy days where meetings with legislators will be scheduled etc. I will be participating in this and would like to give an article or two with a summary regarding the benefits of keeping the parks open. What I am specifically looking for is any literature (and since I'm out of school, I'd appreciate reprints if possible) that might link park access to conservation and/or community benefits.
I'd really appreciate anything you might send my way, or any suggestions as how to really make this a key issue for these politicians. Thanks a lot, Todd Johnson BS Biology, Moravian College [email protected]
