Hi all, I'm looking for some advice from some fellow fish-heads out there. I am about to analyze juvenile Chinook salmon otoliths for growth patterns. We're ready to start embedding but I wanted to make sure which sectioning plane works best. The literature is turning out to be quite a let-down; many authors don't even mention this methodological point.
Anyone have any advice out there? Should I go with the SAGITTAL, TRANSVERSE or FRONTAL planes? The literature appears to point to sagittal, but I wanted some additional advice... Many thanks! Ryan Utz
