*PhD position in ecosystem processes – Michigan Technological University*
A fully funded (4-years) PhD position is available for a highly motivated and qualified individual to research in the Department of Biological Sciences <http://www.bio.mtu.edu/> at Michigan Technological University (MTU). The student has the opportunity to work on a variety of projects that include invasive species, water quality, hydrologic cycling in forests or integrated pest management. In addition to the research on a specific topic, the successful applicant will design an educational program for K-12 school as part of a recently funded NSF grant (GK12 Global Watershed: Integrating Rural and Global Perspectives with Research and Technological Advances). This is a NSF funded project that provides very favorable support for living expenses ($30,000 per year in years 2 and 3 and a tuition waiver). Desirable qualifications in the applicant include a master’s degree in Ecology, Forestry, Physical Sciences or other biology related fields. A strong background or interest in field based research, teaching, experimental design and statistics is highly desired. The quality of life for MTU students is outstanding. MTU is located in Michigan's Keweenaw Peninsula on the South Shore of Lake Superior. The region is dominated by publicly-owned forests, and is rated as a great place for outdoor adventure (see National Geographic Adventure Magazine <http://www.nationalgeographic.com/adventure/0107/trips_5.html>). MTU is in Houghton, Michigan and is a small community with all the characteristics of such (safe, inexpensive, friendly).
