The Jornada Experimental Range, a research unit of the USDA Agricultural Research Service, is pleased to announce a web seminar series on tools and techniques for natural resource assessment and monitoring with an emphasis on grassland, shrubland, and savanna ecosystems. The goal of the web seminars is to introduce and provide practical training in new tools to assist rangeland assessment and monitoring. Each web seminar starts at 2:00pm (MST) and is an hour long including time for questions.
2010 Jornada Assessment and Monitoring Web Seminar Series: April 6 - The Rangeland Assessment and Monitoring Methods Guide - learn how to use this new online tool available at http://www.rangelandmethods.org to discover information and reviews on over 75 different field and remote sensing methods. Tap into and contribute to the collective experience of a dynamic community of rangeland professionals. May 4 - Using the Database for Inventory, Monitoring, and Assessment (DIMA) - Learn how to efficiently use DIMA (aka the "Rangeland Database") to collect data electronically in the field, manage field data, create reports, and export data for analysis. June 8 - Assessment and Monitoring Techniques for Evaluating Road Impacts - Existing assessment and monitoring techniques can be effective for evaluating the impacts of roads or other linear disturbances. This web seminar will provide an overview of standard field and remote sensing methods that can be used or modified to address these types of disturbances. July 20 - Practical Tools for Multi-scale Sample Design and Selection - Properly designed sampling strategies can yield data that will meet local objectives but can also be combined with other observation sets for larger-scale analysis. This seminar will give a practical demonstration of available tools for multi-scale sample design. How to register: Registration is free and available online at http://www.landscapetoolbox.org/train/register. To participate in the web seminars you need a computer with a web browser, a high-speed internet connection, and a phone line. Detailed connection information will be sent in the week prior to each web seminar.
