Hello,

I am currently a Master's student at SUNY Stony Brook!  I am glad to see this
topic brought up because I will be done in a year and am hoping to find a job.

The reason I chose a M.S. vs a PhD is because I spent two summer doing field
research in the middle of the desert with two PhD candidates.  I certainly
learned a lot.  The things everyone has been saying is pretty much why I opted
against a doctorate (at least at this point) because of being over-qualified,
being somewhat limited to academia, etc.

I am studying ecology and evolution, but I am still unsure of what my "ideal"
job is.  I am hoping to work with an NGO.  Dr. Wayne Getz's advice to me was
dependent on when I wanted to start working.  Either go get a job now (really
in a year) with a M.S. or wait 6 years.  I am really hoping that I can find a
real job when I am done.  I love research, but academia is not really where I
want to be.

Thanks for all of the advice.  Thanks, Jason, for bringing this up, and good
luck with your job search!
