I am currently on Sabbatical on Barro Colorado Island in Panama studying tropical forests. I am trying to help a student from Colombia interested in what might be called cultural ecology and I am hoping someone could give me some guidance. His interest is in conservation with specific regard to incorporating indigenous peoples into the long-term management of nature reserves. He wants to do field work that addresses questions of how to make sure indigenous peoples are integrated into and have a full stake in nature reserves. He is very passionate and very talented and has worked for some excellent people here at the Smithsonian Institution in Panama. Can someone suggest relevant graduate programs and faculty in this area or some place to start? I am a bit at a loss. His interests seem to be right in the middle of ecology, conservation, wildlife biology, and anthropology. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
