Hello, I am a writer for the environmental website TENTHMIL.com, and I'm working on a story about "unattractive" species that are fighting for their spot on the Endangered Species list. The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service is reconsidering the proposed rule to list the flat-tailed horned lizard as threatened, and it's one of the species I'd like to highlight.
I'm look for some quotes from a student and/or researcher to be included in the article (due by 4/19/2010). Would anyone on this list interested in supplying some commentary? If not, could you recommend a person or organization that would be more appropriate? I'm also open to suggestions of other "ugly" species that should be highlighted. *Here are the questions:* 1. Please describe your position and your past or current research involving threatened species like the flat-tailed horned lizard. 2. What makes the flat-tailed horned lizard special? Why does it deserve to be protected? 3. What, in your opinion, is causing this species to disappear? 4. What would be the negative effects of losing the flat-tailed horned lizard? 5. What steps should a person take to conserve this species and their habitat? Thanks in advance! -- Beth Buczynski Web Copy Writer/Environmental Blogger www.seebethwrite.com www.ecosphericblog.com @ecosphericblog
