About us: PRBO Conservation Science (PRBO) advances conservation through scientific research on birds and ecosystems. Founded as Point Reyes Bird Observatory, PRBO is a rapidly growing, non-profit organization with expertise in avian ecology, population biology, spatial ecology, ecosystem science, ecological modeling, conservation applications (including endangered species recovery, land and ocean management, ecological restoration, inventory and monitoring, and policy), and public education. We are looking for a highly skilled engineer to lead development of decision support system development and other web applications to improve conservation outcomes throughout California and across the Western Hemisphere. Responsibilities: * Lead major software and database development projects, including the California Avian Data Center (http://www.prbo.org/cadc) and all web applications delivered through CADC * Manage entire lifecycle of development projects, including research requirements, gathering needs assessments, functional design, user- interaction design, graphic design, implementation, testing, documentation, release, revision control, and maintenance * Work with PRBO staff to ensure that they utilize software and database development best practices * Supervise PRBO Informatics Technical team * Work with internal and external partners on new and ongoing projects * Help develop and write proposals and grant applications * Represent PRBO Informatics Division at meetings and conferences and present Informatics Division work/research * Publish technical papers documenting methodologies and advances in informatics. Qualifications Required: * Passion for wildlife, ecology, and conservation * 4+ years of software development experience * Demonstrated project management capability * BS, BA or equivalent college degree * Solid web application development experience using Php, MySQL, Javascript/JQuery, XML, Smarty or equivalents. * Experience with web services, GIS/mapping APIs * Self-directed * Excellent verbal and written communication skills Qualifications Desired: * Experience with Google API’s * Web graphic design skills * Advanced degree in computer science or related field Salary is competitive, reflecting qualifications and experience.
