We are extremely pleased to announce that the Institute on the
Environment (IonE) at the University of Minnesota has a new openings
for a postdoc to examine global-scale changes in crop yield, food
production and food security.
The Fellow will be conducting research on recent trends in global
food production and food security, specifically focused on what
determines crop yields in different regions of the world. The
successful candidate will work with an interdisciplinary team of UMN
faculty and staff to examine how patterns of climate, soil
conditions, agricultural management and crop genetics determine the
performance of crops across regional and global scales. Specific
questions will consider the role of different agricultural practices
(e.g., organic versus conventional cropping systems, GMOs versus
traditional genetics, changing fertilizer and irrigation regimes),
crop breeding and genetic engineering, and environmental conditions
on yield. Furthermore, research will examine how yields may change in
the future, and how we will ultimately meet the needs of our growing
population.
Applications are due by August 1, 2010.
Please share this with your students, colleagues and list-serves as
appropriate. (And my apologies if you received this more than once.)
Thank you!
Best Regards, Jon Foley
