Dear Ecolog community, My name is Melissa Whitman. I am from the Integrated Landscape Assessment Project and the Institute for Natural Resources, Oregon State University. I am currently in the process of collecting vegetation focused data from multiple agencies and researchers in Washington and Oregon. I am specifically looking for additional vegetation plot data for non-forested habitat such as shrub-steppe, meadows, or grasslands. Non-public datasets are especially needed.
We are most interested in databases of herbarium records (historical or current) with general spatial coordinates and/or GIS layers of the following: Vegetation plot data that includes species present, density, and any other information that may be useful for species distribution mapping and modeling (non-spatial explicit data is acceptable). Vegetation/fuels surveys that includes observations of canopy cover, multilayer biomass, fuel sources (ex. downed trees), and anything else that is applicable towards fire modeling. This data will be used for a broad scale research project that synthesizes environmental information to help address landscape management related questions. We are funded by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. If you are curious to know more about our project please check our website at http://inr.oregonstate.edu/arrafuels/ If vegetation data is available, please include information on usage caveats or sharing restrictions; the easiest manner to receive copies of data (ex. FTP sites); and any other details that you feel would be good to note. Please also include associated documentation (metadata and/or reports) to ensure correct use of your data. If you have any questions or would like additional information on this research project feel free to contact me at (503)725-9958 or via email at [email protected]. Thank you for your time and assistance with my data request. Best wishes, Melissa Whitman
