The Michigan, Texas, Gulf etc. accidents were indeed predictable, as noted in our Daly News segment on BP (Beyond Probabilities):
http://steadystate.org/bp-beyond-probablilities/ ECOLOGGERS will also appreciate the current Daly News, “Making a Steady Statement:” http://steadystate.org/learn/blog/ This one explains key politico-rhetorical developments that the ESA Governing Board was apparently oblivious to when it opted to eclipse a well-thought, scientifically sound, proposed ESA position on economic growth with a junk-science fluffer calling for “sustainable growth” (and, in the process, for ongoing parody). Short note on this. I am ~100 miles from this. Could not have happened at a worse time, like any oil spill is good! I think it fairly well contained at this time. People seemed to get on it immediately, including the White House. These things always seem to turn political. I'm just not sure President Obama deserves one more disaster. Animals affected....I am seeing Geese, Muskrats, other Shore-birds, Beavers, etc. on local TV covered in oil. As a side-story.....the Kalamazoo River was once one of the most polluted in the U.S.. Can't give you the reference, but Sport Illustrated (not the greatest Science Magazine in the world), many options here: http://www.google.com/search?source=ig&hl=en&rlz=&=&q=sports+illustrated+and+kalamazoo+river&btnG=Google+Search&aq=f&aqi=&aql=&oq=&gs_rfai=Ca30OrudSTN2DLIqINoWGvaoNAAAAqgQFT9BJByE Many changes have taken place, and most of them improvements in water quality. If you Sea Kayak, walk, run....it has many great settings. No, we do not sell trips to Michigan. Thank you.
