POSITION TITLE: Seasonal Avian Field Technician RESPONSIBILITIES: Technicians will assist in the capture and maintenance of birds, conduct intensive radio telemetry work on songbirds, as well as enter data. Technicians will work upwards of 25 days/mo, and must be flexible to changes in daily/weekly schedules due to weather and telemetry work.
LOCATION: The field work will occur on Block Island, Rhode Island, from approximately 3 Sep to 15 Nov (start date somewhat flexible). QUALIFICATIONS: Only hard-working, motivated, and good-natured persons interested in birds need apply. Previous songbird banding/handling/bleeding and/or telemetry experience, and familiarity with common eastern migrant songbirds are preferred, but not required. The most important qualifications are an enthusiasm for working early mornings, late nights, long hours, sharing dense shrub habitat with mosquitoes and ticks, and living closely with other researchers and assistants. SALARY: Salary for technicians approximately $150/wk, plus field housing on Block Island; an appropriate number of ferry tickets will be reimbursed.
