Dear colleagues,

We are convening a session, “Application of Isotope and Genetic Platforms to
Develop Spatial and Temporal Perspectives in Ecosystem Ecology,” at the
American Geophysical Union meeting in San Francisco, CA, December 13-17,
2010 (http://www.agu.org/meetings/fm10/).

This session (see description below) addresses an emerging interest in
combining genetic and isotopic information to generate new insights into
population and ecosystem ecology. We are excited to have Paul Koch, Eske
Willerslev, Stuart Bearhop, and Vicki Friesen as invited presenters. We seek
additional presenters to contribute to our session as well.

For more information on our session, and how to be included, please don’t
hesitate to contact us.

**Note that the abstract submission deadline is Thursday, September 2nd**

Best wishes,

Andreanna Welch

SESSION B72: Application of Isotope and Genetic Platforms to Develop Spatial
and Temporal Perspectives in Ecosystem Ecology
Isotope and/or genetic approaches provide otherwise intractable information
in a variety of fields including ecology, oceanography and paleoecology.
While C, N and S isotopes reveal inter- and intra- specific variation in
foraging habits and habitat use, H isotopes identify migratory pathways and
breeding sites. Information about effective population size, population
divergence and gene flow emerge from genetic analysis. These data are
crucial for predicting the persistence of populations and are necessary for
retrospective analysis of ecosystem change. We encourage presentations that
apply these approaches to address unique questions that span spatial or
temporal boundaries.
