Assistant or Association Professor in Wetland Ecology

The Department of Biology at East Carolina University 
[http://www.biology.ecu.edu], the third largest campus in the North Carolina 
University system, seeks to build on established strengths in coastal and 
wetlands research by inviting applications for a tenure-track position at the 
rank of assistant or associate professor in wetland ecology beginning August 
15, 2011.  Will consider other titles based on degree and qualifications. The 
successful candidate is expected to lead a strong, extramurally funded research 
program to complement our strengths in ecology and evolution, and contribute to 
our teaching mission at the undergraduate and graduate levels.  This faculty 
member will also contribute appropriate service to the university, community 
and profession.  Persons with research interests in wetlands, including 
community or ecosystems ecology, ecophysiology, conservation, restoration, 
management, or effects of climate change, are encouraged to apply.  A doctorate 
from an appropriately accredited institution is required; post-doctoral 
experience is preferred.  The position reports to the Chair of the Department 
of Biology and is a 9-month tenure-track appointment.



East Carolina University possesses interdisciplinary doctoral programs in 
biology and coastal resources management and excellent resources for wetlands 
and coastal research including boats, field facilities and the Central 
Environmental Laboratory.  ECU is situated in the attractive, affordable 
community of Greenville, within easy reach of North Carolina's Research 
Triangle and the Outer Banks.  Our location on the coastal plain provides 
access to a diversity of coastal and freshwater wetland systems. Professional 
opportunities also exist with ECU's North Carolina Center for Biodiversity, 
Institute for Coastal Science and Policy, the Center for Sustainable Tourism; 
and with the Coastal Studies Institute in Manteo.
